Upstate New York native, Christina Mandel completed her BFA at Nazareth College. She draws on her personal experiences with coming out as gay and fertility struggles to exhibit a body of work that is likened to a beautiful disaster: you cannot look away.

Artist Statement:

My work examines the social and religious rhetoric regarding the female body. By putting emphasis on the push-pull of exterior in relationship to interior, I transform the physical state into the emotional state. Whether referring to fertility or inner beauty, the body takes on the role of reliquary, containing the sacred.
